Western University LONDON, ONTARIO
Western University opened the doors to the brand new $35 million Western Student Recreation Centre in January 2009. With over 160,000 square feet of programming space, the new center has become the main fitness and wellness hub on campus, servicing over 30,000 students, staff, faculty, alumni, affiliate and community members.
Western had begun the search for a new software vendor in 2008, with the priority set of finding a solution to bring program registration online. As the current system did not meet PCI DSS compliance, Western needed a system that could supply an easy to use online registration process and also provide a secure payment processing environment. Fusion was selected in the fall of 2009 to handle all internal operations of the new WSRC and also spearhead the launch of registration services online.
Fusion’s online portal allowed all Western members to register for intramurals, classes and programs online for the first time. Each Fusion portal is completely customized to an institution’s look and feel, allowing Western to customize the user experience during the registration process. Western saw a drastic decease in front-end congestion at the main services desk and a vast increase in customer satisfaction.
Flexible Online Payment Integration
Fusion is able to integrate with any payment gateway system on the market, and remains completely outside of the scope of PCI-DSS compliance. These two advantages allowed Western to satisfy campus-wide compliance requirements as Fusion is able to handle sensitive credit card information in a flexible and appropriate manner.
Enhanced Equipment Checkout Process
Utilizing Fusion’s innovative touchscreen equipment checkout module, Campus Recreation staff are able to check out all drop-in equipment quickly and efficiently. Fusion has eliminated the need to hold member ID cards behind the desk, as serialized drop-in equipment items can be attached directly to a member’s account. This new ability significantly reduced the level of towel and equipment shrinkage.
